The cathedral square is one of the largest and historically most important squares in Thuringia. Erfurt Cathedral itself looks back on over 1000 years of history and, together with the Severi Church, forms a striking ensemble of Gothic architecture.
My inspiration was to visualise the connection between sacred architecture and the popular Christmas tradition. The composition is characterised by the contrast between the delicate pyramid and the monumental church façade.
The picture conveys a calm, festive mood - a moment of contemplation in a public space. In an interior, it acts as an atmospheric eye-catcher, combining history, culture and seasonal atmosphere in one motif.
