This is the moon that was close to Venus in the constellation Aquarius on the early evening of 3 January 2025. This is called a conjunction. The moon, of course, is that thing at the bottom left, and that dot at the top right is Venus. It was a new moon, and therefore only a narrow crescent was lit for us.
Venus is our neighbouring planet and is about 108 million kilometres from the sun. She is therefore an inner planet for us and therefore the planet is always near the sun, and is therefore also called a morning star or evening star. It is, of course, not a star. It is a planet and is about 41 million kilometres from Earth. Like the moon, Venus exhibits phases of appearance, but they cannot be seen in this picture. For that, you need a telescope.
On the moon, some craters can already be seen in the sunlight. The rest of the moon is still dark to us.
