The Dodevlei is a white clay area in the Namib-Naukluft National Park in Namibia. The clay flat was formed after rainfall when the river flooded the Tsauchab, creating shallow pools where the acacias could grow in the abundance of water. When the climate changed, the area was plagued by drought, sand dunes surrounded the plain, blocking the water flow of the river. Because too little water came to the trees that died. The remaining skeletons of the trees, which would be about 900 years old, are blackened by the sun. Although they are not petrified, they do not perish because it is too dry.
