About ‘Forever’ by Ellen Borggreve

These trees have been like my companions all my life and have seen many of my ancestors pass by them as well. I have actually started a project photographing the trees that have been a part of my family's lives before they all disappear. I created this image when I was photographing with a very good friend of mine who is also a forest photographer. We respect each other and this respect resulted in us standing before the same scene, but creating utterly different images, which is the entire point of being an artist. These ancient oak and beech trees have been planted by humans, but they look like they have take on a life of themselves, refusing to become a straight beech tree lining some lane, they instead became trees that are full of character, which is what I love best. This image was created in early autumn at sunrise.

Ellen Borggreve is a landscape photographer and author of Woodscapes and Praxisbuch Wälder fotografieren, among others. She was born and raised in the woods of the Veluwe where her love for trees originated. Besides forests she also likes to photograph Dutch coastal scenes.

The focus is on tranquil scenes that seem to lie outside everyday reality, without people in the picture, with subjects that are about to disappear often being the subject. The fleeting patterns…
