This impressive landscape can be found on the journey to the island of Usedom on the Baltic Sea, just before the Zecherin Bridge, which connects the mainland with Usedom.
A fascinating and magical sight at the same time. This "ghost forest" is a dead piece of forest that was created by rewetting the Peene meadows. A long time ago, work began to drain the fenlands of the lower Peene valley. These areas were also meliorated during the GDR era. Now a fen area is to be created here.
Usedom is one of the sunniest regions in Germany. The island is picturesquely situated between the Baltic Sea, Achterwasser and Szczecin Lagoon. Here you will find around 42 kilometres of sandy beaches, traditional seaside resorts and plenty of unspoilt nature. Well-known seaside resorts include Heringsdorf, Bansin and Ahlbeck - these three are also known as the imperial resorts. The three imperial spas are connected by the longest beach promenade in Europe, which stretches for 12 kilometres. Other charming seaside resorts include Koserow, Loddin, Ückeritz and Zempin. These are known as the amber resorts because amber is often found on their beaches.
