A black and white cat lies curled up deliciously, while a crown adorns her head and she holds a sceptre. The background is blue with light spots. The cat has a satisfied expression on her face. When it was Koningsdag in the Netherlands yesterday, I felt that my cat was actually the true queen and so I drew her that way. She modelled for the work and although she does not own a crown and sceptre, they are always invisibly present. Every cat is a majesty. They are proud animals and like to be treated as such by us humans. Unlike the dog, the cat has been domesticated for a much shorter time and therefore has more wild characteristics. It is therefore important to respect a cat's dignity. I made this work with ecoline, which gives beautiful, watery effects. The spots in the background could be a starry sky. As such, they were expressly applied in blue by dropping water drops on them.
I suspect cat owners will be charmed by this work, but also people who have a touch of humour and want to hang something unusual on their wall.
My work distinguishes itself by strong colours and clear shapes. I work with ecoline, ink and pencil, but I also like to cut and paste.
I get my inspiration from nature and like to daydream. Animals and people sometimes seem to melt together in these reveries.
