About ‘Insecurity’ by Celeste Groenewald
Reduction lino cut | 2013
Death was on my mind in the year 2013. I created a series of lino cuts and an installation piece to consider the idea of death visually. The day of the dead celebrations and sugar skulls lent me a visual framework to give my pieces a face and a presence.

I am a South African artist currently living in Bloemfontein. I graduated in 2015 with a B.A. in fine arts. Many aspects of life inspire me, but my main interests are portraiture, symbol systems, anatomy, nature and vanitas. My artworks are often visual musings or dream paintings created with graphite, oil, gouache, or soft pastels, although I enjoy experimenting with different mediums and teaching myself new techniques.
