This kestrel sat on a pole, with the mouse firmly clutched in its claw. Ann's body language I could tell the bird was going to fly. The sun and wind were favourable, and I had set the camera just in time. What followed was a series of photos's, of which this was the absolute best.
The little mouse was already dead, yet it seems to be alive in the photo. It therefore evokes different thoughts in people.
On the one hand, sad for the little mouse, but on the other, the Kestrel has to eat at least 6 a day to survive.
As a birder, I'd much rather see a Kestrel, then, than a mouse.
About the photo:
I had chosen to set the ISO to at least 400. The risk then is an overexposed photo with a lot of sun. I did set the shutter speed to 1/1600s, to capture the action well.
