This medieval lady in a very richly decorated dress with a very large lace collar. This kind of dress dates back to the 16th century, from the Elizabethan era. With her lavishly opulent dress and hairstyle, she has a rich look. She stands in front of an old and dilapidated building which makes her wealth and luxury stand out even more. She clearly demands attention with her gaze; she wants to tell us something. She is apparently impressed by the large violets found there. An unusual plant, because I have never seen them that big, but who knows, maybe they existed back then. She clearly points to the Violets growing lushly right in front of the lady. She can't really ignore them and she doesn't, on the contrary she stops right in front of the flowers to draw attention to them. We too should appreciate the little things in life more, because life can be over tomorrow without any sign beforehand. The colours in this painterly work, orange, brown, yellow, cream and cyan, are warm and appropriate to the time in which this work is set.
