The North American F-100 Super Sabre is a fighter aircraft designed by North American Aviation in the late 1940s.
It was the first successful attempt to build a fighter that could fly supersonically in horizontal flight. It broke the sound barrier in May 1953 and the Super Sabre set a world record on 29 October 1953 when it reached a speed of 1217 km per hour. In 1954, the aircraft became operational with the US Air Force. For the factory, it was the successor to the F-86 Sabre.
