About "Nutmeg & grater - coarsely ground spice"

About the artwork

This is one of my personal favourite images because it shows so much texture. We see an extreme close-up of an old kitchen grater and a whole nutmeg. The scene is speckled with freshly grated nutmeg flakes and coarse pieces. The warm brown tones and the metallic sheen of the grater create an almost antique feel.

I am often fascinated by the "inconspicuous" in food photography. A nutmeg looks unspectacular from the outside, but as soon as you grate it, it releases an incredible aroma. I wanted to translate this fragrance visually. The rough metal of the grater is in dialogue with the hard shell of the nut. The warm light is reminiscent of Christmas baking, mashed potatoes or a hot chai tea.

The atmosphere is cosy, warm and artisanal. It's all about "do-it-yourself", grating by hand, away from ready-made powder from the bag.

This work of art is perfect for a cosy country kitchen or a bakery. The colours (rust brown, silver, warm orange) harmonise beautifully with wooden furniture. It brings a certain nostalgic warmth to the room and reminds the viewer of the magic of good spices.
