The large (approx. 9000 square metres) central square in the centre of Prague is a popular meeting place. It is considered one of the most beautiful squares in Europe. It is home to the Old Town Hall with the Astronomical Clock, the Teyn Church and the Jan Hus Monument.
The Teyn Church was built from the middle of the 14th century until the beginning of the 16th century. Due to its chequered history, today it is an architectural mixture of Gothic and Baroque styles.
Jan Hus studied at the University of Prague. In 1396, he was awarded the title of Magister Artium and was ordained a priest in 1400. He preached the reform of the church a century before Luther and died at the stake for it.
