Project Noonlight – Yorkshire Fog by Olga Don Photography

In this work from the Noonlight series, you see a striped white sphere that stands out sharply against an intense interplay of light and shadow. The feathery seeds almost seem to glow in the bright light, whilst the background fades into deep red-black tones that lend the image an almost abstract, graphic power.

On closer inspection, you can see the subtle texture of the blades of grass, the fragile ears of corn and tiny floating particles that catch the light as if they were in motion. The vagueness of the photograph lends it a dreamlike atmosphere. The inspiration for this work comes from a moment in which nature and contrast fully reinforce one another: a seemingly simple blade of grass that, through the play of light, takes on an almost dramatic, almost painterly presence. The image was created by deliberately seeking out harsh backlighting and extreme colour contrasts, using nature itself as both light source and composition.

The atmosphere is intense, powerful and mysterious, with an almost cinematic tension. At the same time, there is also something fragile about it: something light and ephemeral, captured in a moment of maximum intensity.

The technique revolves around contrast photography, in which underexposure and overexposure are deliberately employed to abstract form and colour into almost painterly planes. In post-processing, the contrast is deepened to enhance the tension between light and dark.

In an interior, this work brings character and depth. It suits spaces that dare to be bold: modern, minimalist or, conversely, warm and darkly furnished, where it forms a powerful focal point with an almost theatrical aura.
