I come here almost every year for my work, and of course my camera always comes along in my luggage. I usually do some research beforehand, and that is certainly not an unnecessary luxury with this city. After all, Quito is not the safest city in the world, but it is a particularly beautiful one. With a bit of common sense, however, it is perfectly doable.
This morning I had myself dropped off at the Panecillo Lookout, from where you have a magnificent view over the sprawling city. From there, I walked down on foot towards the old town. Through stairs and small alleys, I eventually arrived at this spot. On the steps, between the buildings, I had a beautiful view of the iconic towers of the Basilica del Voto Nacional. The soft morning light completed the scene. The perfect moment to pull out my camera and capture this scene.
When I was done, I continued towards the old town, where I took a taxi back to my hotel. There, I usually pre-select the photos I took that morning, to further edit them later at home and make them suitable for your wall.
