The Raambuurt in Deventer is a former industrial neighborhood that has been given a new purpose since the beginning of this millennium. Among other things, cloth fabric used to be made here and there were 'Ramen' to stretch the fabric. That's where the district got its name from. The district falls within Deventer's historic ring of canals and thus belongs to the city center. After all industrial activity ceased at the end of the twentieth century, a new plan was devised. Monumental buildings and warehouses were refurbished and supplemented with new construction in the same style. Notable is the old chimney of the factory where condensed milk was made. The factory is gone but the chimney has remained as a distinctive part of Deventer's skyline.
