About ‘Rooted In The Past’ by Ellen Borggreve

After my mum and dad died, I received a box of slides. When I looked at them it was immediately obvious that my mum had taken these. This might not mean a lot to most people, but my mum was disabled after I was under 4 years old and she had taken these slides of my in the woods. Strangely enough she had taken some of them of me on the roots of trees that I had photographed as well. I put all the slides in order and started following her footsteps through these slides, estimating where she might have gone and this became a project that has this strange coincidence of photographing rooted trees whilst tracing her footsteps and my roots. I hiked enormous distances, not always knowing precisely where she might have been, but sometimes the slide before and the one after provided me with clues. I am still working on this and I enjoy this enormously. Just knowing that these trees are witnesses of my mum walking by with me as a 2 year old is quite special. This is how this image came about on one of my long walks to trace her footsteps. These wonderful trees with their roots exposed on a loam clay slope.

Ellen Borggreve is a landscape photographer and author of Woodscapes and Praxisbuch Wälder fotografieren, among others. She was born and raised in the woods of the Veluwe where her love for trees originated. Besides forests she also likes to photograph Dutch coastal scenes.

The focus is on tranquil scenes that seem to lie outside everyday reality, without people in the picture, with subjects that are about to disappear often being the subject. The fleeting patterns…

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
