High dynamic range (HDR) indicates images with a high dynamic range (both very dark parts and very bright parts are rendered well). Most common photographs have a small dynamic range, as do the vast majority of digital cameras and also screens. The human eye has a very large dynamic range, by taking a few photos in quick succession, with different exposure times and combining those photos, an HDR image can be composed.
