Spider head mill by Sándor Maszárik

This photograph shows a classic Dutch spider-head windmill at the edge of a calm body of water. This picture was created during an early morning walk, when the light was still soft and the world was slowly waking up. The combination of calm, movement and the play of light and reflection inspired me to capture this moment. At that moment, the windmill, a symbol of the Dutch landscape, felt like a gateway to both the past and the present.

The atmosphere is serene and nostalgic. The soft light and peaceful colours bring a sense of calm, while the turning sails add a subtle dynamic. It is an image that invites you to breathe and pause for a moment.

For me, this work is about balance - between movement and stillness, between nature and culture. It is an ode to the Dutch landscape, but also to the moments when everything is just right for a moment. The reflection in the water symbolises self-reflection: what do you see when you really look?

The photo was taken with a short shutter speed to capture the movement of the blades in time without disturbing the tranquillity of the landscape. The composition was carefully chosen to emphasise the symmetry of the reflection, and the colours were lightly processed to preserve the natural atmosphere.
