The temple of the sky goddess
As the tallest pagoda in all of Vietnam with a proud seven stories, Thien Mu Pagoda, located on the Perfume River near Hue City, towers over the river and is the landmark of Hue. The Thien Mu Pagoda was built in 1601 by Nguyen Hoang, who belonged to the Ngyuen family, the imperial family. The construction of Thien Mu Pagoda is based on a legend, according to which an old woman in a red dress repeatedly appeared on a hill and ordered the construction of a pagoda at this exact spot on the Perfume River. The pagoda would have to be dedicated to a deity and built for the goddess. Fittingly, the Thien Mu Pagoda is called the Temple of the Goddess of Heaven and was also dedicated to the Goddess of Heaven. Today, monks still live in the Thien Mu Pagoda - the Thien Mu Pagoda is thus one of the most charming sights during a trip to Vietnam
