*** Here again a shot with long exposure. *** Venice is world-famous as the "city of a thousand bridges". The Italian city was built on countless wooden piles, so that the various parts of the city are surrounded by water. The most famous waterway in the metropolis is the Grand Canal, which winds through the area in an S-shape. Hundreds of ships bring people from one side to the other every day or serve as excursion boats for many tourists. The Grand Canal flows past pompous buildings and palaces from the Italian Renaissance and gives visitors a wonderful view of the city's architectural gems. The island of San Giorgio Maggiore is a small island in Venice. The larger neighbouring island is called Giudecca and is home to several beautiful churches and an industrial monument. From the Piazzetta at the Doge's Palace you have a beautiful view of the island's scenery, the basilica and the monastery. It is located in the San Marco basin at the outlet of the Canale della Giudecca and can be reached in 5 minutes by vaporetto from San Marco. The monastery and the church on the island have the same name. The island of San Gorgio Maggiore is 490 metres long, up to 320 metres wide and covers an area of about 10 hectares.
