Four young wood owls on a birch branch. These young owls are ringed before they fly out. A great moment to quickly capture them. The youngsters stay in the nest for about 31 days, but then go out early in the branches around the nest. After that they usually stay in the parents' territory for about 3 months before they start searching for their own territory. An adult wood owl is 37 to 43 cm long and has a wingspan of 80 to 95 cm. The female weighs 553 g and is on average 110 g heavier than the male.
