About ‘lonely shell’ by Karen Velleman

A colour photograph of the beach, taken from above. The image is soft in tone, composed of a beige palette of wet sand, light shadows and natural textures. In the centre is an open, emptied razor shell - a long, narrow shell, half buried in the sand.

Around the shell are numerous small bird-leg prints. They circle around it, walk towards it and away again, like silent traces of a brief, purposeful presence. No bird in the picture, no movement, just what was left behind: the remaining shell and the prints of searching, eating, moving on.

The photo's high angle makes the image graphic - almost like a drawing. The composition is simple but layered. Each element is in place without standing out.

The colours are soft, without pronounced contrast: sand colour, bone white, a touch of grey in the shadows. The whole feels quiet, fleeting, and yet precise.

This photo doesn't tell a big story, but it does tell a complete one. What you see is what remains of a moment that has already passed.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
