A colour photograph of a volcanic landscape, vast and open. In the centre, a narrow road winds through a rugged terrain of rocks and solidified lava, like a line drawn between silence and destination. The road leads to a small town in the distance, hiding among the slopes of the landscape - white or light buildings, barely visible, but unmistakably human amidst nature.
Volcanoes rise in the background, their silhouettes powerful but calm. They dominate the horizon without threat, like fixed sentinels of the island. The sky above is clear blue, with a small cloud here and there, softly contrasting with the emptiness of the sky.
The colours are earthy and pure: brown, grey, brick red in the rocks; white and pale yellow in the distant town; blue and white above everything. The sun is high, the light bright but not merciless. Shadows fall sharply, emphasising the texture of the landscape.
This picture shows the relationship between man and nature: small versus big, but not lost. The road is narrow, but visible. Movement is possible, even here.
An image that is at once rugged and quiet. Untouched, yet passable.
