Albert Gleizes
Albert Gleizes (1881–1953) was a significant French painter, theorist, and co-founder of Cubism. Alongside artists like Jean Metzinger, he shaped the development of this revolutionary art movement, which dissolved traditional perspectives and portrayed the world in geometric forms and abstract compositions. Gleizes was not only a painter but also an influential writer. His book "Du Cubisme", co-written with Metzinger in 1912, is considered one of the first theoretical works on Cubism. In his paintings, Gleizes experimented with the representation of movement, time, and space, often drawing inspiration from industrial and urban scenes. Later in life, he increasingly turned to abstract art and spiritual themes, which are reflected in his later works. Gleizes left behind a versatile legacy that includes both his paintings and his theoretical contributions to art history.
