Iceland is home to less than 400,000 people while it is 3x larger than the Netherlands. This means that in Iceland you have space without too much human influence.
During a roadtrip to the north of Iceland I chose the southern and then eastern route up. The landscape changed regularly and at one point I drove past this beautiful lava field covered with moss.
The lava field used to be a lava flow and you can still see this by the many 'bread shapes' that formed during the cooling of the lava. The lava flows slower and sometimes it 'accumulates' with the bread shapes as a result.
This kind of moss-covered lava fields are fortunately protected and you can only view them from certain vantage points.
In my opinion, it portrays the Icelandic emptiness, but also boundless beauty in a beautiful way. The dramatic sky adds an extra dimension to the image.
