50 metres off the north coast of Mayo Ireland, at Downpatrick Head, is the 45 metre high flat sea stack Dún Briste. (The Broken Fort) This is a relatively new sea stack as it was not separated from the mainland of Ireland until 1393 when monster seas separated it from County Mayo during an overnight storm. The top of the stack is about 50 feet long and 15 feet wide in the middle. This flattened pile contains the remains of the buildings where people lived on the night of the great storm.
