About ‘Een Naaimachine’ by Veluws

Rond 1755 werd er in verschillende Europese landen geprobeerd een geschikte machine uit te vinden die het naaien met de hand zou kunnen vervangen. De ontwikkelingen richtten zich op de grote kleermakerijen (waar de gezellen niet echt zaten te wachten op een vervanger voor hun handwerk).
In Frankrijk verschenen rond 1830 de eerste machines in de naaiateliers. Deze werden door de arbeiders niet graag gezien, maar de vinding en de verbeteringen van de machine waren niet meer te stoppen. Ook in de 'Nieuwe Wereld' werd druk gezocht naar een machine die het trage en kostbare handwerk kon vervangen. De eerste bruikbare toepassing werd de naaimachine die door Barthélemy Thimonnier werd ontwikkeld. Met zijn uitvinding sleepte hij een contract in de wacht voor het produceren van Franse legeruniformen. Thimonniers machine naaide een kettingsteek (zie ook lockmachine). In de Verenigde Staten was het ondertussen Elias Howe, die een machine met een losse spoel ontwikkelde, het mechanisme dat nog steeds in de meeste naaimachines wordt gebruikt.
In de tweede helft van de 19e eeuw werd de naaimachine vervolmaakt, onder andere door Isaac Singer, en kon deze ook door de huisvrouw worden gebruikt. De ontwikkeling van de trapnaaimachine bleek een echte verbetering te zijn doordat men de handen nu volledig vrij had voor het naaigoed. Tevens kregen de machines meer mogelijkheden, verschillende naaisteken zoals zigzaggen en zomen werden mogelijk.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
