The beginning of spring is always a little celebration. Snowdrops and crocuses poke their heads above ground level and create a colourful scene. So too on The Hague's Clingendael estate. Snowdrops belong to the daffodil family and, like the daffodil, are bulbous plants. The plant itself is native to southern Europe and became established in the Netherlands in the eighteenth century. Whoever says snowdrops actually says spring. Snowdrops can grow up to 20 cm tall while the bulbs can grow to about 1.5 to 2 cm. Snowdrops can flower in February, March or April and are therefore an omen of the approaching spring. Besides snowdrops, there are of course other types of flowers. The special light makes this flower something special. It shows that nature is indestructible and always comes back to survive. The colour purple attracts the necessary insects that guarantee the continuation of the splendour of colours displayed by this flower.
