About ‘Ghost town Doel’ by Diana Mieras

Doel is a small village in Belgium, located on the river Scheldt, not far from Antwerp. What makes Doel special is that it is almost completely deserted and is often called a ghost town.

Once upon a time, Doel was a lively village with inhabitants, schools, shops and other amenities. In the 1960s, however, a plan to expand the Antwerp port came along, which meant Doel would have to be demolished. This led to much uncertainty and unrest among residents.

In the 1990s, the government started buying out residents and more and more people left. Today, most houses are empty and many buildings have fallen into disrepair. You now see a lot of graffiti and some places are overgrown with plants.

Despite the vacancy, Doel has become a popular spot for tourists, photographers.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
