Houses with steps leading to their entrances that are lit at night by large street lights. Lighting the Steps shows a group of Italian houses in Panicale, Umbria and the juxtaposition of the steps, street light and the stone built houses against the plastered building next to it really caught my eye. A love piece of a charming Italian medieval town with windows with wooden shutters and lichen growing on the walls giving it that 'lived in' look. The blue and red flag signifies a local contrada. Like other Italian towns, Panicale is divided up into contrada or groups usually along old family traditions and/or geography within the town. During annual festivals, the contradas compete with each other and the flags are much in evidence and proudly waved.
