This photo of the famous Frauenkirche in Munich was taken shortly after sunset with a long exposure.
The official name of this late Gothic church is Dom zu Unserer Lieben Frau. It is often referred to simply as Munich Cathedral. The church is one of the three largest brick churches north of the Alps. It was first mentioned in 1269. With its twin towers visible from afar, the Frauenkirche is probably the best-known landmark in the Bavarian capital.
With 1.5 million inhabitants, Munich is the most populous city in Bavaria and the third largest city in Germany after Berlin and Hamburg. The Oktoberfest takes place in the Bavarian capital every year. In addition to Marienplatz with the New Town Hall, there are many other sights in Munich, such as: Nymphenburg Palace, the English Garden, the Olympic Park, the Frauenkirche, the Viktualienmarkt, the Deutsches Museum and the Hofbräuhaus.
With more than 70,500 square kilometres, Bavaria is the largest federal state in Germany. Around 13.2 million people live here, making Bavaria the second most populous state in Germany. Other large cities in Bavaria include Nuremberg and Augsburg.
