The musk ox lives on the arctic tundra, and is found in areas where the summer temperature does not exceed 10 °C. Their habitat extends from northern North America and Greenland to the arctic archipelago and northern Russia, the animal also occurs in Norway after reintroduction in the 1940s and since 1974 also again in northern Siberia. About five animals from the Norwegian population have settled in Sweden, where there are now about thirty animals.
