Royal Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon (J-021).
One of the Royal Air Force's few remaining General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcons, the J-021, is ready to take off for another training flight from Volkel Air Base. A week after this photo was taken, this F-16 made its last flight and was retired from service.
The General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon is a single-engine multipurpose fighter jet that has been widely used since 1979. In the Netherlands and Belgium, it was the successor to the F-104 Starfighter.
The last F-16s of the Royal Air Force will be retired from service in 2024. The replacement of the F-16 with the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II has been underway since 2019.
