On a misty morning at Werk aan het Spoel in Culemborg, this black-and-white photograph captures the silent metamorphosis of a spent flower.
In the misty stillness, dewdrops seem to sparkle like subdued fireworks in the first rays of the morning sun.
The photo has something abstract about it, even though it is clearly a nature shot.
Blooming flowers often have a beauty you only discover when frost, snow or drops have added an extra dimension to them.
On this morning, I had been walking with my camera for a while in this nature reserve near the Lek, when the sun broke through the morning mist and revealed this spectacle. A magical moment.
In post-processing, I made the photo black and white so that I could play with contrast a bit more, something that makes the photo just a bit more special.
