This almost ghostly old beech tree looks like it is suddenly appearing in this autumn woodland scene. All the surrounding slender trees are adorned in autumn colours, but this tree appears to be from a different era, a different season. It is old and gnarly and oozes character. The metallic sheen of its bark contrasts immensely with the vibrant colours of the foliage which surrounds it. This tree is one that I had been wanting to photograph for a long time and indeed I have made many images of it through equally many years. This tree is one of my childhood friends and will probably vanish soon, which is why it became so important to me to capture its essence, its majesty and its presence.
