About the artwork

Mossy grey beech trees arching over autumn foliage. I had made an image of this scene, which is now no longer there, on a previous visit to this mountain forest. There was no fog at the time and I was determined to photograph it is misty conditions one day. You never know when that will be though and it takes a great deal of dedication going up and down the mountain hoping that the conditions will be in your favour. Then one day....we drove up the mountain and when we started hiking it became clear that that day would be THE day. Fog was floating in and out of the forest and it created magic everywhere we looked. Then it became difficult to photograph because in the presence of such splendor , where do you start and how do you stop just gazing at it in amazement? I started with the image that I had wanted to make all along, which was this one and the atmosphere is just the way I like it. More images were made that morning that can be found in the album" Forests of Velvet"
