This macro photo shows a very small detail of a sundew plant. A lot of bokeh is visible in the background, caused by all the other bulbs of the plant, and only a few bulbs in the foreground are in focus.
Sundew (Drosera) is a genus of carnivorous plants in the sundew family (Droseraceae) and counts around two hundred species.
The botanical name Drosera is derived from the Ancient Greek δρόσος (drosos) = dew. The sundew lures, catches and devours insects by a glistening, sticky substance on its tentacles. The prey serves to provide the plant with nutrients that are virtually absent in the soil where the plants live. Most sundew species live in marshy areas, but there are exceptions in extremely dry regions.
