About ‘The Wing’ by Ton van Buuren
Coloured pencil on black paper. Parrots, and macaws in particular, have always amazed me. Their colours are so bright, verging on the cheeky, that you wonder how they survive in the rainforest without camouflage. Because the wing is so prominent in the picture, I call it "The Wing".

I came this close to not being involved in photography. My first camera was a Kodak Instamatic, with the biggest parallax error you could wish for! So I always had pictures of people without heads. I used these cassettes with 12 or 24 photos, black and white (that was cheaper than colour!). I was advised to be economical with this material. I only took a picture if I was sure it was worth it.
