About ‘The blackthorn (Prunus spinosa)’ by Deborah Ruijper-Scholtus

The blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), a native shrub, is known for its early flowering. The blackthorn flowers in March/April with white blossoms, followed by blue to almost black berries (plums) in August, which grow to about 1 cm in size. It is also a hardy shrub and flowers every year, resulting in a fine harvest of plums.

What appeals to me in this photo is the simplicity of the shrub and its little flowers. It is a shrub still in bloom with many buds, some of which have already blossomed. This looks incredibly refined and, to me, represents a new beginning. A new year in which fertility is allowed to grow and flourish once more.

The somewhat softer colours also represent spring to me, with the branches still covered in tight buds clearly visible, so that everyone can see that this is a flowering plant in nature.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
