Cyanotype landscapes on canvas, poster, wallpaper and ArtFrame by Mark van Hattem

Cyanotype is an old photographic printing technique, dating back to an invention by sir John Herschel in 1842. It makes blue prints, which can be toned with tea or coffee, which gives them different brownish and dark blue or green teints. My cyanotypes are printed on water-colour paper. Since they are scanned thereafter, any digital reproduction (like these prints) will show the structure of the paper, all the small scratches in the print, and much more. It is, however, all part of the unique experience a cyanotype is, with happy accidents occuring all the time.
