Amsterdam, my view and inspiration for three years. During my time in this city, I shot a lot of images, but some moments stick. This photo is one of them. Taken from a roof terrace near Central Station, overlooking the Basilica of St Nicolas and the city bustling with life below me.
Below, trams ride, bicycles zigzag through traffic, tourists make their way and locals rush home. That typical Amsterdam energy-always in motion. And up there, on that roof terrace, it was just quiet. A beautiful contrast.
The sunset gave the city just that warm light that brought everything together. No exaggerated colors, but just enough to bring the facades and the water to life. Camera on tripod, settings right, and then: click. Sometimes you just know the moment is right.
At home, the second part then begins: post-processing, fine-tuning, making sure the photo shows not only what I saw, but also what I felt. It takes time, but if the end result is right, then it goes to my shop at Werk aan de Muur.
So if you are looking for a piece of Amsterdam that captures the dynamism of the city, but with a touch of tranquillity from above-then this one is ready to go.
