This photo is extra special to me, not only because Chicago is one of my favorite cities in the United States, but also because of the unique conditions in which it was taken. It was freezing cold, in the middle of winter, and Lake Michigan lay completely still under a thick layer of frozen ice.
What made this morning so exceptional was the perfect symmetry created. The Chicago skyline, with the imposing Willis Tower as its recognizable centerpiece, reflected razor-sharp in the smooth ice surface. It was as if the city presented itself twice, once in steel and glass, and once in crystal. That reflection gave the image an almost surrealistic calm, as if time stood still for a moment.
I stood there in complete silence, surrounded by freezing temperatures and a city that was still asleep. The soft colors of the sunrise gave it a warm glow, contrasting beautifully with the cool tones of the ice. At home, I carefully edited the photo to preserve the atmosphere of that moment: bright, serene and powerful.
For me, this photo is a frozen memory of a city that manages to touch me again and again. A rare moment of balance between nature and architecture, and I hope it evokes on your wall the same sense of wonder I felt standing there.
