About ‘Artichoke’ by Saskia de Wal

In this still life, the artichoke takes centre stage as a sculptural natural object: powerful, layered and full of subtle details. The leaves unfold almost like an architectural form, in which softness and strength come together. Through light, shadow and composition, an image emerges that radiates tranquillity, yet continues to intrigue.

For this work, I chose an analogue 4x5 camera, a photographic technique that demands attention, precision and a slow pace. It is precisely this artisanal process that suits the tranquil beauty of the still life. The large negative captures rich details, subtle tonality and a depth that makes this classic form of photography so special.

The artichoke fascinates me as a subject because it appears both fragile and powerful. An everyday object that, taken out of context, becomes almost sculptural and timeless. In this composition, I wanted to let the beauty of form, texture and simplicity speak for itself.

This work brings tranquillity, elegance and a subtle artistic tension to an interior. Its classic appearance and rich details make it a refined work of art for lovers of still lifes, botanical forms and fine art photography with a timeless character.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
