About ‘Chilled’ by Ellen Borggreve

A freezing cold foggy morning on the moors of the Veluwe with three oak trees as pale silhouettes in this winter landscape.

How I love the muted pastels of winter, especially in dense fog. Autumn is a difficult season for me with its bright colours which can be way too much for me. The dull and understated mood of winter is one I really enjoy especially on very cold mornings, when I am the only one out there, hoarfrost has covered the meadows and everything looks like a pastel wonderland. This is one of my very favourite images I ever took, with these oak trees almost looking like ghosts in this pale grey landscape

Ellen Borggreve is a landscape photographer and author of Woodscapes and Praxisbuch Wälder fotografieren, among others. She was born and raised in the woods of the Veluwe where her love for trees originated. Besides forests she also likes to photograph Dutch coastal scenes.

The focus is on tranquil scenes that seem to lie outside everyday reality, without people in the picture, with subjects that are about to disappear often being the subject. The fleeting patterns…
