About "Eating red squirrel"

by Anne Ponsen

About the artwork

The squirrel eats a nut while sitting behind green ferns. It has funny long claws with which it can easily climb trees and jump from branch to branch.
The squirrel is 20 to 28 centimetres long and weighs 250 to 350 grams. Its bushy bushy tail is 15 to 20 centimetres long. It is an omnivore, belonging to the rodents. Unlike its name suggests, its coat colour can range from black to yellowish, with all sorts of shades of red and brown in between. Usually the animals are reddish brown with a white belly side, 's winters more greyish dark brown. The colour also becomes more greyish as the squirrel ages. The ear tufts are particularly noticeable in winter. A squirrel can put up the hairs on the plume tail.

The squirrel, red squirrel or common squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) is a rodent in the family of squirrels (Sciuridae). The scientific name of the species was published in 1758 by Carl Linnaeus. It is the most common squirrel species in Europe.
