About ‘Erasmus Bridge Rotterdam at night’ by Rene van Heerdt

It was cold, very cold. Such a cold that creeps not only into your fingers, but also into your mind. The wind came off the water, unhindered, as if the Meuse itself decided to test me. Still, I remained standing. Tripod firmly on the quay, camera pointed at the Erasmus Bridge, waiting for what was to come.

The city seemed to hold its breath for a moment. Cars slid across the bridge like streaks of light, red and white, without sound. The water below me was no longer water, but a smooth skin of steel and silk. Everything that normally moves became still. Everything normally ephemeral gained weight.

I thought of nothing but time. Of how seconds work differently here. A long shutter speed requires patience, but also forces surrender. You can't intervene. You can only stand, endure coldness, and accept that the picture is created without you.

Above the bridge, the sky coloured softly. No spectacle, no drama, just a quiet promise. As if the city wanted to be friendly for a moment. I no longer felt my toes, my hands ached, but it didn't matter. This moment demanded presence, not comfort.

When the shutter closed, I already knew: this was not a picture of a bridge. This was a photo of persevering. Of staying put while the world goes on. Of braving cold to capture something that looks like this for just a moment.

Some images take more than time. And sometimes that is exactly why they stay.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
