Flyby of a Curtiss P-40E Warhawk warbird during the 2017 Aviation Nation Airshow.
The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk was an American fighter aircraft of World War II. The prototype made its first flight on October 15, 1938, and the aircraft was used until the end of World War II. A total of 13,738 aircraft were produced through November 1944, at the Curtiss plant in Buffalo, New York.
The design was derived from the P-36 Hawk, which allowed the aircraft to enter production quickly. In the United States the aircraft was known as the Warhawk, while in the Soviet Union and the United Kingdom it was called Tomahawk or Kittyhawk, depending on the variant.
