Impression of the magnificently decorated main gate (Rōmon) of the Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto, also known as Gion Shrine. The striking building with its bright vermilion, white and gold color scheme, which is typical of Shinto architecture, is enthroned in the center. The intricate wooden decorations and golden details bear witness to a high level of craftsmanship. The view continues through the gate into the shrine grounds, where the symmetrical design conveys calm and clarity. The two stone guardian lions (komainu) on either side of the gate symbolize protection and purity, central elements of Japanese spirituality.
