I found this beautiful jungle in an old volcano crater. In the foreground bloom two red Musa Coccinea - a relative of the bananas as can be recognized from their large leaves.
These plants must have large leaves to be able to absorb the scarce light in the dark undergrowth of the jungle. Only a small part of the sunlight reaches the ground in the jungle because most of the light above our heads is blocked in the high forest canopy by the bromeliads, orchids, ferns and many other epiphytes that grow on the branches there.
In the background the overgrown crater rim is visible that completely fills the rest of the image.
