About ‘Matera’ by Antwan Janssen

Matera is a city in the southern Italian region of Basilicata and also capital of the province of the same name. Matera is located in the valley of the Gravina di Matera River, 46 kilometers from the Ionian Sea. The city is known for the Sassi, a district consisting of houses partly carved out of the mountains. The origins of Matera lie in prehistoric times when people started carving houses in the gorges of the area.

The city consists of two parts; the Sassi near the gorge and the modern city on the plain. The Sassi were still inhabited by 15,000 people until 1952 when the Italian government banned it due to poor hygiene and sanitary conditions. In the center of the Sassi stands at the highest point the cathedral from 1230. In addition to this church, the Sassi count 155 cave churches, starting from a few square meters in size.

I am Antwan Janssen, travel and nature photographer from Uden. During my many travels on this globe I try to capture all the beauty on photo. As you can see on this site my preference goes to landscapes, wildlife but also to the local population, mostly abroad but certainly also in our beautiful Netherlands. In recent years, several of my photos have won awards in both national and international photo competitions.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
